Type species: Echinoascotheca duplooformis Matsush.

Notes: Echinoascotheca differs from other genera in Phaeotrichaceae in having an ascus without an apical ring. Echinoascotheca is a distinct genus in Phaeotrichaceae but lacks molecular data. Fresh specimen with DNA sequence data is needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus.
