Importance and distribution
Xanthoriicola comprises only one obligately lichenicolous species known in the ascocarps of Xanthoria parietina (Teloschistaceae). It can be either a saprobe that colonize dead lichen thalli, or a parasite that achieves fixed carbon from living lichen host (Hawksworth 1982, 1988).
