Actinomyxa Syd. & P. Syd., Annls mycol. 15(1/2): 146 (1917).

Index Fungorum number: IF 65; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12121, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Superficial thyriothecia, simple, prosenchymatic, white and red, form irregular corpuscular disintegration, no mycelium. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, paraphysate. Ascospores clavulate, hyaline, transversely septate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Sydow & sydow 1917).

Type species: Actinomyxa australiensis Syd. & P. Syd.

Notes: Actinomyxa is characterised by simple, prosenchymatic thyriothecia, cylindrical-clavate asci and clavulate, hyaline, transversely septate ascospores. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010) listed Actinomyxa in Microthyriaceae. Wu et al. (2011) treated Actinomyxa in Stictidaceae based on morphology. Wijayawardene et al. (2014) treated Actinomyxa in Dothideomycetes, genera incertae sedis. The generic placement of Actinomyxa is uncertain and is currently in Dothideomycetes, genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Actinomyxa.
