Elmerinula

Elmerinula Syd., Leafl. of Philipp. Bot. 9(no. 125): 3175 (1934).

Index Fungorum number: IF 1762; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12204, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Perisporiate mycelium, composed of rather straight-branched septate brown hyphopodiate hyphae. Setae absent. Perithecia erect, short stipitate or sessile, broadly ovate, tenacious, with no ostiole or atypical, translucently dark-brown. Asci few in the perithecium, ovate or ovate-globose, with 6–8 spored. Ascospores oblong, uniseptate, hyaline. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Sydow1934).

 Type species: Elmerinula capnoides Syd.

Notes: Elmerinula is characterised by branched septate brown hyphopodiate hyphae, erect, short stipitate or sessile, broadly ovate perithecia, ovate or ovate-globose, 6–8-spored asci and oblong, uniseptate, hyaline ascospores. Sequence data is lacking for E. capnoides. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2014, 2020) accepted Elmerinula in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Elmerinula.
