Globoa

Globoa Bat. & H. Maia, in Batista & Ciferri, Beih. Sydowia 3: 54 (1962).

Index Fungorum number: IF 2073; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12215, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Mycelium superficial, membranous, blackish-brown hyphae irregularly branched, septate, constricted, having oblong cells. Sexual morph: Hyphopodia and setae absent. Perithecia developed beneath the mycelial pellicle, globose to sub-globose, membranous, sessile, brown, glabrous, pseudo-parenchymatic. Peridium composed of textura angularis. Ascospores brownish, 3–4-septate, slightly constricted, polystichous, slightly spiny. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Batista & Ciferri 1962).

 Type species: Globoa toddaliae Bat. & H. Maia

Notes: Globoa is characterised by globose to sub-globose hyphopodia, and brownish, 3−4-septate, slightly constricted ascospores. Lumbsch and Huhndorf (2010), Kirk et al. (2013) and Wijayawardene et al. (2014) listed Globoa in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. Sequence data is lacking for Globoa. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the generic placement of Globoa.
