Parasitic on host. Sexual morph: Stromata epiphyllous, superficial, sparse, comprising numerous locules, enlarged from the middle, arranged more or less concentrically, but discrete, rounded elliptical. Asci paraphysate, 8-spored, small pedicel, clavate ovate, thickened apex, paraphysed numerous, hyaline, filiform. Ascospores distichous, conglomerate, elliptical, middle septate, brown, slightly constricted, sub equal. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Doidge 1921).
Type species: Palawaniella eucleae Doidge
Notes: Palawaniella is characterised by epiphyllous, superficial, sparse stromata, 8-spored, small pedicel, clavate or ovate asci and distichous, conglomerate, elliptical ascospores. Molecular data is lacking for Palawaniella. Palawaniella is currently a distinct genus in Parmulariaceae. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus.
