Bellamyces Crous, Coppins & U. Braun, in Shen et al., Stud. Mycol. 96: 199 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 831519; Facesoffungi number: FoF 12034, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium consisting of branched, septate, medium brown, smooth. Conidiophores erect, brown, smooth, subcylindrical, straight to geniculate-sinuous, reduced to conidiogenous cells, or 0–1-septate, unbranched. Conidiogenous cells terminal, subcylindrical, brown, smooth, proliferating sympodially and inconspicuously 1– 2 times per currently at apex. Conidia solitary, brown, smooth, subcylindrical, straight, widest in middle to lower third, apex subobtuse, transversely 3– 8-euseptate, rarely with 1– 2 oblique septa, hila truncate, neither thickened, nor darkened (adapted from Shen et al. 2020).

Type species: Bellamyces quercus Crous, Coppins & U. Braun

Notes: Bellamyces is characterised by branched, septate, medium brown, smooth mycelium, erect, brown, subcylindrical conidiophores, subcylindrical, brown conidiogenous cells, and solitary, brown conidia. Bellamyces is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct and well-defined genus in Sympoventuriaceae. Molecular markers available for Bellamyces include ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF-1.
